Diani Beach : A slice of paradise on the Kenyan coast

September 14, 2017

A typical tourist to Kenya would do the regular trip to Masai Mara, Mount Kenya and probably Mombasa but there is so much more to explore in this beautiful country. Diani beach on the Kenyan coast is where you get picture postcard views of the Indian Ocean. The best part is that this beach is not crowded (or maybe it was not tourist season when we visited 🙂

Believe me, I have seen very many beautiful beaches but this one beats them all. Pristine white softest sand under your feet and blue waters make this so much special.

Water remains shallow near shore, with some underwater sandbars near the surface which allow wading with a clear view of the sandy bottom. During high tide, sandbars are completely covered and during low tide the soft white sandbars and beaches are exposed. A short boat ride to the sandbar and you can enjoy snorkelling and scuba diving. It was an amazing experience for us to see the most beautiful coral reefs and fishes. Our kids had so much fun snorkelling and being able to hold starfish, sea cucumber and sea spider in their hands. Numerous other water sports can be enjoyed by the beach.

That’s my son holding these beautiful creatures.

If you wish to stay out of water, you can just laze by and enjoy dhow boats sailing around or some fishermen going about their work. You might also catch a glimpse of some exotic birds coming to feed on the algae . If camel riding is your thing then you can surely enjoy one here.

Hope you enjoyed this slice of paradise by the Indian Ocean….

Until next time….Kwaheri !
